KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday handed over Armaghan, the prime suspect in the kidnapping and murder case of Mustafa Amir, to police on a four-day physical remand.
Following court orders, Armaghan was presented before ATC No. 2. During the hearing, the judge inquired about the number of FIRs registered against the accused, to which the prosecution confirmed that four cases had been filed.
The accused informed the court that he had been severely beaten by the police. In response, the defense lawyer requested a medical examination, citing the accused’s poor condition. The judge expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation officer (IO) for not conducting a medical checkup earlier, emphasizing that it should have been done on the first day.
The IO requested a 30-day physical remand for further investigation. However, during the proceedings, the accused collapsed in the courtroom and was given medical attention. The court later approved a four-day physical remand to facilitate the investigation.
Medical Board Formed for Exhumation
In compliance with the court’s directives, a medical board has been formed to exhume the body of Mustafa Amir for further investigation.
The exhumation is scheduled for February 21 in the presence of a judicial magistrate. The medical board is chaired by a senior police surgeon and includes other forensic experts. It will conduct DNA sampling and determine the cause of death.
The procedure will take place at Edhi Cemetery in Mochko, where forensic evidence will be collected to aid the ongoing investigation.
