The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, has expressed concern over the recent amendments to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAB). He said that the amendments have made it very difficult to prove crimes, and this will weaken the accountability process.
Justice Bandial said that many crimes have been either abolished or changed in the amendments, and that some crimes have been made very difficult to prove. He also said that there are many flaws in the NAB law, and that it has not been applied properly.
The Chief Justice's comments come after a number of high-profile cases have been dismissed or dropped due to the NAB amendments. In one case, a court acquitted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of corruption charges, saying that the amendments had made it impossible to prove the charges against him.
Justice Bandial has ordered a review of the NAB amendments, and he has also asked the government to take steps to address the flaws in the NAB law.
