LAHORE: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Lahore on Tuesday to discuss the rapidly escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, along with other matters of national and regional concern.
The high-level meeting, held at Maulana Fazl's residence, focused primarily on Pakistan’s response to India’s recent unilateral actions and the current security situation. The two leaders also exchanged views on the ongoing conflict in Palestine, expressing shared concern over the humanitarian crisis in the region.
During the meeting, Minister Naqvi took Maulana Fazlur Rehman into confidence regarding Pakistan’s official stance on India's recent moves, which Islamabad has described as provocative and unjustified. Naqvi also provided a detailed briefing on the decisions taken by the National Security Committee (NSC) in light of the escalating regional situation.
"The government is fully alert and prepared to respond decisively to any act of aggression from across the border," Naqvi reportedly told the JUI-F leader. "India is trying to play with fire, and Pakistan will respond with full force to any misadventure."
In response, Maulana Fazlur Rehman voiced strong condemnation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies, stating, "Modi is an enemy of Muslims. Wherever there is a front against Islam and Muslims, Modi will stand there." He emphasized the need for national unity in the face of external threats and expressed full support for the government’s approach to national defense and foreign policy.
Naqvi also inquired about Fazl’s health and conveyed best wishes, noting the senior leader’s continued importance in the national political discourse.
The meeting comes amid heightened diplomatic and military tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, following recent incidents along the Line of Control (LoC) and India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. The government continues to engage political and religious leaders as part of its broader consultative strategy to ensure a unified national stance.
