KARACHI: The National Stadium Karachi is set to be inaugurated tomorrow (Tuesday), following its complete renovation to host the Champions Trophy 2025. The opening match of the tournament, scheduled for February 19, will feature host nation Pakistan against New Zealand.
The reopening ceremony will be marked by a vibrant event, showcasing performances by famous singers, an exciting fireworks display, and a captivating light show. Public entry will be free of charge.
According to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the renovation work began on September 28 and was completed by January 31. Significant upgrades were made, including the rebuilding of the entire pavilion, installation of new seating in all enclosures, and the addition of modern LED lights, advanced score screens, and grills. These improvements are designed to enhance the experience for spectators during the Champions Trophy 2025.
Efforts were also made to improve visibility and accessibility. Barriers were removed, hospitality boxes were upgraded, and a new pedestrian bridge was constructed to ensure convenience for visitors. Mohsin Naqvi praised the teamwork of FWO, NESPAK, contractors, and the PCB team for completing the project efficiently.
The ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy will kick off on February 19, with Pakistan, the host and defending champions, facing New Zealand at National Stadium Karachi. The eight-team tournament will feature 15 matches over 19 days, taking place in Pakistan and Dubai. Pakistan’s Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi will host group matches, with Lahore hosting the second semi-final and the final, scheduled for March 9. If India qualifies, the final will be held in Dubai.
