ISLAMABAD: An accountability court in Islamabad has granted bail to PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in the Toshakhana case.
The court, presided over by Judge Muhammad Bashir, has instructed Sharif to submit surety bonds of Rs1 million, and the case's hearing has been adjourned until November 20. Earlier, Nawaz Sharif surrendered himself to the court, and he was accompanied by former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Khawaja Asif, with Tariq Fazal Chaudhry acting as his guarantor.
This marked Nawaz Sharif's first appearance in an accountability court in four years. During the proceedings, the judge allowed Sharif some additional time to appear in court.
The Islamabad High Court is set to address Nawaz Sharif's petitions seeking the revival of his appeals in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references. A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, has been formed to hear these pleas. Nawaz Sharif's legal counsel, Amjad Pervaiz Advocate, filed the applications, requesting the restoration of his appeals and a decision on their merit.
