Nawaz Sharif's nomination papers for the NA-130 constituency in Lahore have been approved, allowing him to contest the upcoming elections.
Bilal Yaseen, a PML-N leader in Lahore and the covering candidate in this constituency, confirmed the acceptance of Sharif's papers. Sharif, a former three-time prime minister, submitted his nomination papers on Sunday for both the NA-130 constituency in Lahore and another in Mansehra.
Yaseen mentioned that Nawaz Sharif plans to contest from these constituencies and aims to become prime minister for the fourth time. He also noted the presence of Sharif's lawyer, Amjad Parvez, during the submission of nomination papers.
The process of verifying documents continues until December 30, including verification for minority and women candidates. Despite Sharif's return from a four-year self-imposed exile in London in October, significant legal obstacles remain as he seeks to participate in the upcoming general elections.
Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in July 2017 following the Panama Papers case, leading to his resignation as the prime minister.
