OGRA announces decrease in LPG prices

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced a reduction in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices before the start of Ramadan. According to a notification issued on Friday, LPG rates have been decreased by Rs6.15 per kilogram, setting the new price at Rs247.82 per kg.

The revised prices will take effect from Saturday, March 1, 2025. The cost of a standard domestic LPG cylinder (11.8 kg) has been lowered by Rs72.57, bringing the new price to Rs2,924.31, compared to Rs2,996.88 in February 2025.

Meanwhile, the federal government is considering deregulating petroleum product prices. This proposal has faced resistance from the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association, which argues that deregulation may lead to increased sales of smuggled Iranian oil and non-standard fuel.

In a letter to the petroleum minister, the association highlighted concerns over the potential impact on investments made by petroleum dealers. They emphasized that such decisions should involve consultation with all stakeholders.

Under the proposed deregulation plan, oil marketing companies (OMCs) would be allowed to sell fuel at competitive prices, expanding their market share. A price ceiling would be introduced to maintain price stability.

Additionally, the government plans to permit oil refineries to blend up to 5% ethanol in petroleum products to lower fuel costs. The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association has urged authorities to engage in discussions to address their concerns.
