In a recent development, the Ombudsman of Sindh has issued a directive to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) authorities, urging them to promptly address the unresolved issue of outstanding service dues owed to a female complainant.
The directive comes in response to a complaint lodged by Ms. Naheed Akhter, who reported that her late husband had served as an employee in the Firebrigade Department of KMC until his unfortunate passing in September 2018. Since his demise, Ms. Akhter had been tirelessly pursuing the rightful payment of pension, service dues, and her appointment under the deceased quota. Her efforts to secure a resolution had previously gone unanswered, prompting her to seek intervention from the Ombudsman's Office.
In response to the complaint, KMC provided details stating that they had consistently disbursed a monthly pension of Rs6,822 to Ms. Akhter, in addition to a payment of Rs599,799 for provident fund group insurance and arrears of pension. However, due to financial constraints, they were unable to release the gratuity amount she was entitled to.
In a subsequent report, it was revealed that Ms. Akhter had also been appointed as a Clerk (BPS-11) under the deceased quota. The complainant confirmed this update and expressed her gratitude for the support and assistance provided to her.
This directive from the Sindh Ombudsman emphasizes the importance of ensuring that rightful dues are promptly settled, particularly in cases involving the families of deceased employees. The KMC has been called upon to expedite the release of the remaining gratuity owed to Ms. Naheed Akhter, providing her with the financial support she rightfully deserves.
