KARACHI: The City Court in Karachi has ordered Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Umair Tariq Bajari into police custody regarding the Orangi Town dacoity case.

Following the registration of the case against DSP Umair Tariq Bajari and two Shaheen Force officials, a hearing took place in Karachi’s judicial magistrate court. During the hearing, the investigating officer requested a physical remand for the police officer involved in the robbery.

After considering arguments from both sides, the court granted a one-day physical remand for DSP Umair Tariq Bajari under police custody. The court also directed the investigating officer to present a progress report during the next hearing.

Earlier today, DSP Umair Tariq Bajari, along with Khurram, Farman, and 20 others, was charged in the Orangi Town heist case for dacoity and kidnapping. This legal action stemmed from a complaint filed by businessman Shakir Khan.

As per the FIR, Khan, who runs a wholesale business of sanitary items in Orangi Town, experienced a raid by around 20 officers in uniform and civilian clothing around 2:20 am on November 19. During the raid, the officers held Khan's family members hostage and seized Rs20 million, 70 to 80 tola of gold, laptops, and mobile phones.

The complaint detailed that the officers left Khan and his brother Aamir near Baloch Pull after taking the valuables. Subsequently, the SHO of Defence police station returned Rs10.3 million, 50 tola gold, and 12 mobile phones to Khan.

In his complaint, Khan urged higher authorities to take strict action against DSP Bajari and the other involved officers.
