MINSK: Pakistan and Belarus on Friday signed a series of agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors, including defense, trade, and environmental protection.

The accords were signed during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to Belarus, where he held wide-ranging discussions with President Aleksandr Lukashenko. The two leaders engaged in delegation-level talks that covered various areas of mutual interest, including regional developments and international issues.

The signing ceremony took place in Minsk, where Prime Minister Sharif and President Lukashenko jointly witnessed the exchange of the pre-signed documents by ministers and senior officials from both sides. These agreements mark a significant step forward in enhancing strategic, economic, and environmental collaboration between the two nations.

Officials highlighted that the defense agreement would promote greater security cooperation and knowledge-sharing between the armed forces, while the trade pacts are expected to facilitate increased bilateral commerce and investment. Environmental cooperation was also emphasized, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable development and addressing global climate challenges.

Prime Minister Sharif expressed optimism that the visit would pave the way for stronger diplomatic and economic ties, stating that Pakistan is eager to expand its partnerships with countries like Belarus. President Lukashenko echoed the sentiment, stressing Belarus’s intention to bolster multifaceted engagement with Pakistan.

The visit and resulting agreements underscore a growing momentum in Pakistan-Belarus relations, aimed at building a more robust and diversified partnership for mutual benefit.
