ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the tragic loss of lives following a deadly attack on tourists in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
At least 26 people were killed in the attack in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in the scenic Himalayan region. In an official statement, the Foreign Office extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to those injured.
The Foreign Office also condemned the violence, emphasizing the importance of protecting civilians, particularly during times of increased regional tensions. The attack occurred during the visit of the U.S. Vice President to India, raising concerns over its timing and possible motives.
IIOJK Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also strongly condemned the assault on tourists. However, political analysts suggest the incident may be part of a false flag operation, similar to those allegedly staged in the past by the Modi government to divert public attention from domestic challenges and to fuel anti-Pakistan narratives.
In the aftermath, Indian media and social media channels linked to the intelligence agency RAW quickly blamed Pakistan without evidence, with some outlets portraying the attack as religiously motivated. These actions have drawn criticism for spreading baseless propaganda.
Tensions in the region have remained high since India’s 2019 revocation of Kashmir’s special constitutional status, which led to increased military presence, demographic changes, and widespread unrest in the region.
