The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) in Islamabad has raised the electricity tariff by Rs5.63 per unit due to monthly fuel adjustment (MFA), as per the decision announced on Wednesday.

This move comes following NEPRA's completion of a hearing on the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) petition, requesting the increase for December 2023.

The approved hike is expected to impose an additional burden of Rs49 billion on power consumers, who will encounter the increased charges in their electricity bills next month. It's important to note that K-Electric and Lifeline consumers will remain unaffected, and NEPRA has mentioned that a detailed verdict will be released later.

It's worth mentioning that this recent tariff adjustment does not impact K-Electric and Lifeline consumers. NEPRA had previously increased the power tariff by Rs4.13 per unit under fuel adjustment for November. Additionally, the caretaker government had sought NEPRA's approval for the tariff hike to maintain a uniform electricity tariff throughout the country.
