Pakistan, Uzbekistan set to boost trade and investment ties

TASHKENT: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tashkent on a two-day visit to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, with a particular focus on boosting trade, investment, and energy ties.

The premier, who recently concluded his visit to Azerbaijan, was welcomed with a guard of honour upon his arrival at the Tashkent Congress Centre, where he met with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The discussions between the two leaders were expected to cover a broad spectrum of issues, including regional connectivity, energy, defence, security, education, and regional stability. A major highlight of the visit is PM Shehbaz's address at the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum, aimed at fostering stronger bilateral economic relations and encouraging increased investment. The two sides are also set to sign several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements to formalize their cooperation in various sectors.

In addition to the Business Forum, PM Shehbaz is scheduled to visit the Techno Park in Tashkent, where he will observe Uzbekistan’s growing construction industry. His delegation includes key officials such as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Investment Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.

Earlier, the prime minister paid a visit to the Uzbek Independence Monument, a symbol of the country’s rich history and sovereignty. During the visit, PM Shehbaz laid a floral wreath and expressed admiration for Uzbekistan’s progress. He highlighted the shared struggle for independence and development between the two nations, emphasizing a common vision for peace and prosperity in the region.

The visit marks a significant step in strengthening the bilateral ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, focusing on areas critical to the future of both countries.
