Thousands of Palestinians, carrying flags, marched in northern Israel on Tuesday to remember the displacement of Palestinians during the 1948 war surrounding the establishment of Israel, and to advocate for the right of refugees to return.
Around 3,000 participants, many of whom also called for an end to the Gaza conflict, joined the march near Haifa, commemorating the "Nakba" or "catastrophe," when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled or were expelled during the 1948 war. Participants, donning Palestinian flags and keffiyeh headscarves, attended the annual Return March, a rare Palestinian demonstration allowed to proceed in Israel amidst the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
