LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has proposed early school closures in Punjab due to the forecast of intense heat in the coming days. In a letter issued to school and higher education authorities, as well as district commissioners and deputy commissioners, PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia emphasized the need for adjustments in school timings and an early closure if the heat becomes extreme.
The PDMA has urged educational institutions to ensure the availability of potable water and restrict outdoor activities during this period. It also advised schools to ensure classrooms are well-ventilated and cooled to provide a safe environment for students. Additionally, schools are required to set up first-aid counters and train staff to handle any emergencies related to the heat.
The authority has advised schools to stay in regular contact with district disaster management offices to receive updated advisories and alerts. The PDMA also highlighted the importance of preparing for heat-related incidents in advance.
