ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif began a two-day official visit to Belarus on Thursday at the invitation of President Aleksandr Lukashenko, aiming to boost bilateral ties between the two countries.

Accompanied by a high-level delegation, the premier is joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and other senior officials.

The visit marks a continuation of growing cooperation following President Lukashenko's trip to Pakistan in November last year, during which more than a dozen memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements were signed. The leaders had pledged to expand collaboration across various sectors including trade, economy, and governance.

In Minsk, PM Shehbaz will engage in comprehensive discussions with President Lukashenko to review progress on ongoing initiatives and identify new avenues for cooperation. Emphasis will be placed on enhancing political dialogue, strengthening inter-parliamentary relations, and fostering regional economic integration.

This visit builds upon recent diplomatic momentum, including the 8th Session of the Pakistan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) held in February 2025 and the visit of a mixed ministerial delegation to Belarus earlier in April.

Multiple agreements are expected to be signed during the trip, aimed at reinforcing collaboration and deepening strategic ties. The visit highlights Islamabad’s commitment to diversifying its international partnerships and enhancing connectivity with European nations.

PM Shehbaz’s presence in Belarus underscores the evolving and robust partnership between the two countries.
