Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed relevant departments to take urgent action against tax defaulters and evaders during a meeting held on Monday.

Chairing a session focused on the track and trace system, Shehbaz Sharif also directed the establishment of an inquiry committee to identify any shortcomings.

He emphasized the need to identify obstacles within the track and trace system within seven days and tasked the committee with proposing recommendations for an automated taxation system in factories.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the system's performance, the Prime Minister questioned why it was not functioning effectively. He urged officials to seek assistance from renowned international organizations for the improvement of the track and trace system.

Additionally, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for a comprehensive digital strategy and track and trace system plan, stating that factories refusing to comply with the system should face closure.

He highlighted the system's importance in combating counterfeit and substandard products, particularly mentioning the need to eradicate the sale of fake and unregistered cigarettes.

Furthermore, Shehbaz Sharif noted the economic challenges faced by Pakistan and expressed concern over mafias damaging the national treasury.

Earlier, on March 24, the Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of proper planning for communication infrastructure, particularly the railway line, to fully exploit the mineral resources in Balochistan.

During a Lahore meeting on Balochistan's mines and minerals, with specific reference to the Reqo Dik Project, Shehbaz Sharif instructed the swift upgrade of road networks to connect the Reqo Dik project with Gwadar.

The meeting was attended by a delegation from Barrick Gold Company, led by CEO Mark Bristow, among others.
