KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Syed Murad Ali Shah remarked that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), once a formidable adversary for Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), now appears aligned with the party, marking a notable shift in their relationship.
During a press conference in Hyderabad, Murad Ali Shah criticized political favoritism, highlighting that during the general elections in 2013 and 2018, the counting seemed like a mere formality as the favored candidate [Ladla] was seemingly preselected.
He emphasized the PPP's rejection of this 'selection culture,' advocating for constitutional adherence. Shah stressed that, as per the constitution, the government is chosen by the people of Pakistan, asserting their right to elect their representatives.
Furthermore, Shah affirmed that despite the lack of a fair playing field, the PPP intends to engage with the public.
In recent developments, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) finalized preparations for the general elections in 2024. The ECP concluded work on the election schedule, planning to initiate the nomination paper collection in December 2023 and complete scrutiny by the third week of that month. The appointment of returning officers (ROs) is expected in January 2024, followed by the publication of the final candidate list later that month.
