Karachi police have arrested four key members of a car theft gang that had been terrorizing the Northern Bypass and other parts of Sindh and Balochistan.
The gang stole cars and sold them to buyers in other parts of the country. One of the victims was senior journalist and anchorperson Akhtar Shaheen Rand of Metro One News.
The police also recovered four other stolen cars and two pistols from the gang. The suspects had been carrying out robberies on the Northern Bypass for a long time and had become a major headache for the police and a source of terror for the public.
On October 15, 2023, the suspects stole a Suzuki Cultus car from a woman and two men at gunpoint at the Attock Pump on the Northern Bypass Road.
They then sold the car to one of their accomplices, buyer Syed Kamran Shah, for Rs. 200,000. The police recovered the car and registered a case against the suspects under Section 392/397/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at Police Station Sarjania Town.
On October 20, 2023, the suspects stole a Suzuki Hi-Roof car from the Attock Pump on the Northern Bypass near Sector 51, Lyari Basti. They also stole four mobile phones and Rs. 40,000 from the victims at gunpoint. The police registered a case against the suspects under Section 392/397/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at Police Station Sarjania Town.
The arrested suspects would take stolen cars to Maharabpur (Sindh) and Hub (Balochistan) and sell them to their buyers, Kamran Shah and Wali Dad Bugti.

- Case No. 1066/2023, Section 353/324/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, Police Station Sarjania Town, Karachi
- Case No. 1067/2023, Section 23(1)A of the Sindh Arms Act, Police Station Sarjania Town, Karachi
- Case No. 1068/2023, Section 23(1)A of the Sindh Arms Act, Police Station Sarjania Town, Karachi.
