Poliovirus Detected in 5 Pakistani Cities, Sparks Outbreak Fears

Poliovirus has been detected at nine places across five cities in Pakistan, raising concerns about a potential outbreak.

The virus was found in environmental samples in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and Quetta. The Pakistani government has launched a nationwide polio vaccination campaign in response to the outbreak.

90% of polio cases in Pakistan are "imported" from Afghanistan, according to Interim Health Minister Nadeem Jan. This highlights the importance of regional cooperation in polio eradication efforts.
