KARACHI: Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon accused the Punjab government of politicizing the Sehwan accident.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, he criticized the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for its repeated rule at the federal level while failing to complete road infrastructure. He also rebuked Punjab’s information minister for her remarks, stating that Sindh only presents facts.
Memon highlighted that Sindh is entitled to Rs180 billion, which remains frozen in the Supreme Court. He argued that while Pakistan’s traffic relies on Sindh’s roads, the province does not receive sufficient resources. He stressed that the responsibility for Sehwan’s road construction lies with the federal government and urged them to fulfill this duty or transfer it to Sindh officially.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari swiftly responded, accusing Sindh’s leaders of taking offense when confronted with the truth. She criticized Sindh for frequently playing the provincialism card and pointed out that several major projects in the province receive federal support.
Bokhari also condemned Sharjeel Memon for repeatedly using the “uncle-niece” reference in political discussions, calling it a political tactic. She praised Punjab’s ability to complete projects within a year, contrasting it with Sindh’s long-standing governance failures, including dysfunctional schools and poor transportation.
She further mocked Sindh’s administration, stating that a government that failed to clean Karachi’s garbage in 16 years should not lecture others. Inviting Memon to Lahore, she claimed that Sindh’s leadership could learn from Punjab’s clean streets and efficient infrastructure.
