KARACHI: Sindh’s Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani on Monday addressed misconceptions regarding the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) stance on the canal issue and other provincial rights, stating that his party has not compromised on any matter.
Speaking to the media, Ghani said, "We didn’t compromise over any issue. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) should remove this misconception from their minds. We will not be convinced on the canal issue." He further emphasized that PPP’s position remains firm, and the party would not back down from its demand to end the controversial canal project.
Ghani also responded to the belief that the PPP’s involvement in talks was politically motivated. “Some people in the PML-N lack positive thinking. We don’t know whom they are serving,” he said. "We are not engaging in discussions due to any political necessity; we are doing so because it is our mandate entrusted by the people."
The minister highlighted that Sindh is not receiving its rightful share of river water, further intensifying the ongoing dispute. "The people of Sindh have the priority right over the water of the rivers that flow through our province," Ghani stated.
He also brought attention to the issue of gas supply, asserting that Sindh’s gas is being supplied to other provinces. "We have protested over Sindh’s gas being used elsewhere. Any misconception regarding this should be cleared," Ghani noted. He stressed that Sindh’s natural resources, including gas, should primarily benefit the people of the province.
Ghani’s comments come amid ongoing tensions between the PPP-led provincial government and the federal government, particularly regarding resource distribution and provincial rights. The minister reiterated that Sindh's rights over water and gas would not be compromised, calling for greater fairness and respect for provincial entitlements.
