President Dr. Arif Alvi has officially accepted the resignation of Supreme Court Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi on Thursday.

The acceptance was made based on the prime minister's advice under Article 179 (retiring age) of the Constitution, according to a press release from the President House. Justice Naqvi, who is facing allegations of 'misconduct' in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), submitted his resignation on Wednesday.

In his resignation letter, Justice Naqvi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as a judge in the Lahore High Court and the Supreme Court. He cited an inability to continue fulfilling his duties and officially resigned from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the Supreme Court had dismissed a plea to halt the Supreme Judicial Council's proceedings against Justice Mazahar Ali Naqvi. The complaint against Justice Naqvi was filed by Mian Dawood Advocate in the judicial council. In April, Justice Isa and Justice Masood had written a judicial letter to then-CJP Justice Bandial, urging the convening of an SJC meeting to address the allegations. In May, Justice Bandial referred the matter to Justice Tariq Masood for a legal opinion.
