Last year, in 2023, the Federal Tax Ombudsman resolved 8,128 complaints regarding tax and customs authorities' maladministration, marking an increase from the 6,106 complaints resolved in 2022. This information was shared during a briefing to President Dr. Arif Alvi in Islamabad today.
The briefing also highlighted that in 2023, the FTO provided relief amounting to 17.74 billion rupees to taxpayers, compared to seven billion rupees in 2022.
During the event, the President emphasized the need for the FTO to intensify its efforts in handling and resolving complaints swiftly, emphasizing increased engagement with taxpayers.
Dr. Arif Alvi stressed the importance of improved collaboration between the FTO and FBR to ensure timely execution of decisions and to enhance Pakistan's tax system for better efficiency.
He noted that an enhanced tax system is crucial for boosting tax revenues in the country, contributing to economic growth, and reducing reliance on external loans.
