KARACHI: Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has, on Sunday, ceased the provision of fuel to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) due to the non-remittance of the daily payment required to ensure a continuous fuel supply.

Earlier this month, PIA had reached an agreement with PSO to make daily payments to sustain the supply of fuel for essential routes. This came after the state-owned oil company had halted supply services due to mounting outstanding dues.

However, on Sunday, Pakistan State Oil decided to halt the fuel supply to PIA, citing non-compliance with the daily payment arrangement. In response to this, PIA had transferred Rs220 million to Pakistan State Oil the day before, aiming to secure the continuous daily supply of fuel.

Civil aviation experts have expressed their dissatisfaction with PSO's stance, highlighting the absence of leniency towards another state institution.

The spokesperson for the national flag carrier has stated that PIA's flight schedule is gradually returning to normalcy following the restoration of fuel supply by Pakistan State Oil (PSO).
