After initially scheduling intra-party polls for February 5, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to postpone them.
The party cited the ongoing election campaigns of its members as the reason for the delay. A new schedule for the intra-party polls will be announced after the upcoming general election in 2024.
The announcement of the new schedule follows Federal Election Commissioner Raoof Hassan releasing the initial timetable for the intra-party polls on PTI's official X account. This move comes after the electoral watchdog stripped PTI of its electoral symbol 'bat' in response to a petition by founding member Akbar S Babar, challenging the adherence of intra-party elections to established rules.
In response to the decision, PTI sought relief from the Peshawar High Court, which temporarily nullified the electoral body's ruling. However, the Election Commission of Pakistan filed a review of this decision, leading to its acceptance by a two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court. Subsequently, PTI appealed this decision to the Supreme Court, but the high court's ruling was upheld.
