A Rawalpindi court declined a plea for physical remand of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, in connection to multiple cases including the GHQ attack. Instead, Qureshi was sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand in 12 cases, following the court's decision after hearing arguments.
During the proceedings, Qureshi revealed his wife's illness at Sir Aga Khan Hospital, offering verification through hospital records and Pemra records. He referenced a Supreme Court bail order, mentioning his arrest under MPO 3, later withdrawn due to alleged flaws. Qureshi expressed emotional distress, citing mistreatment during his arrest, alleging physical and mental torture by authorities.
Despite his plea and recounting of his contributions representing Pakistan internationally, Qureshi faced distressing treatment and asserted his innocence in court. The court, eventually moved by his emotional state, ordered the removal of his handcuffs and reserved judgment on the remand request.
Earlier, Qureshi arrived at the judicial complex under tight security, brought in an armored vehicle with handcuffs for a hearing related to the May 9 vandalism case. He was arrested after being released on bail in a cipher case, following an order from the Rawalpindi deputy commissioner under MPO 3. The R.A. Bazar police had filed a case against him for the May 9 incident, seeking his physical remand during the court appearance.
