KARACHI: In a strongly worded statement, Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal has come forward to defend the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after recent criticism by Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen. Iqbal expressed disappointment and frustration over what he called unwarranted negativity directed at the league, calling PSL a “Made-in-Pakistan success story” and a source of national pride.

Salman Iqbal, who also serves as the President and CEO of ARY Digital Network, emphasized the consistent and unwavering support his media group has provided to the league since its inception. “From day one, ARY stood by PSL, placing the highest bid to own Karachi Kings and building its image through our platforms,” he said in his official statement. “We broadcast every draft live and uninterrupted. Later, A Sports stepped up and gave the highest ever bid for PSL TV rights — a testament to our belief in this league.”

He also pointed to the unique promotional efforts undertaken this year, stating, “This Ramzan, ARY offered its biggest game show, Jeeto Pakistan, watched by millions around the world, for the unveiling of the PSL trophy.”

Iqbal praised the work of PCB COO Salman Naseer and the broader PCB team, recognizing their ongoing efforts to uplift the PSL. “Instead of negativity and denunciation, we as team owners must support their vision and efforts. PSL is more than cricket — it is a MADE-in-PAKISTAN success story,” he asserted.

The Karachi Kings owner called on all stakeholders, including Ali Tareen, to act in unity and protect the integrity of the league. “Every stakeholder benefits from PSL’s growth. Let’s protect what we’ve built together,” he added.

His remarks come in response to Tareen’s recent interview, in which the Multan Sultans owner criticized PSL 10 organizers for what he described as a “lack of innovation and seriousness” in preparing for the upcoming milestone season.

Salman Iqbal concluded his message by reiterating that the PSL is not just a cricket tournament, but a symbol of the country's sporting potential, a league that has given rise to stars, and something that deserves the collective support of all team owners and stakeholders.
