Sardar Ayaz Sadiq of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been elected as the 22nd Speaker of the National Assembly (NA).

The session, chaired by Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, witnessed protests from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). The voting, conducted via secret ballot, saw Ayaz Sadiq securing 199 votes against Sunni Ittehad Council's Aamir Dogar, who received 91 votes. Following the official announcement by Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq took oath as the new speaker of the NA and assumed charge, while Raja Pervaiz Ashraf resigned from his position.

The new speaker will oversee the election of the deputy speaker. Notably, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of the PML-N nominated Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for the speakership, while Bilawal Bhutto, representing the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), named Ghulam Mustafa Shah as the candidate for Deputy Speaker. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) nominated Aamir Dogar for the speakership and Junaid Khan for the deputy speaker's post.
