KARACHI: The police investigation into the recent robbery and carjacking incident involving Senior Journalist and Metro1 News Anchor Person, Akhtar Shaheen Rind, as well as Ahsan Jatoi and their family members, has yielded no results.
Even after five days, the authorities have not made any headway in locating the stolen car or identifying the culprits. No action has been taken against the negligent police officers and the 15 police helpline, who failed in their duties.
On Sunday, October 15, at 7:45 PM, three armed robbers carried out the robbery near the Northern Bypass Attock Petrol Pump. The incident, registered under case number 1004/2023, took place in the Surjani Town police station's jurisdiction. Akhtar Shaheen Rind and his family, along with cousin journalist Ahsan Jatoi, were targeted. The robbers forcibly took their mobile phones, cash, and their car, a Cultus with the registration AUY-139.
Although Additional IG Karachi, Khadim Hussain Rind, took notice of the incident, there has been no visible progress in the case thus far. Akhtar Shaheen Rind, the affected journalist, revealed that no senior police officer has reached out to him to update him on the investigation's status.
Akhtar Shaheen Rind holds the DIG West, SSP West, DSP, and SHO Surjani accountable for the incident, demanding a thorough investigation into their roles. He also called for action to be taken against the negligence of the police helpline 15 staff.
Furthermore, Akhtar Shaheen Rind has insisted on the immediate recovery of the stolen vehicle and all the looted items. He has given an ultimatum, stating that if the recovery is not achieved within 24 hours, he will stage a protest outside the Karachi Press Club along with his family, children, and fellow journalists.
