Seven terrorists killed in DI Khan security operation

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least seven terrorists were eliminated in two separate security operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district, the military’s media wing stated on Sunday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Daraban area after receiving reports about the presence of militants. During the operation, troops effectively engaged the terrorists, killing four of them.

In another encounter in the Maddi area, security forces neutralized three more militants. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the eliminated terrorists, who were reportedly involved in multiple attacks in the region.

Following the successful operations, security forces launched a sanitization drive to eliminate any remaining threats. The ISPR reiterated that Pakistan’s security forces remain committed to eradicating terrorism from the country.

This operation follows a similar intelligence-based raid in KP’s Karak district on Friday, where at least six terrorists were killed by security forces.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks, particularly targeting law enforcement agencies and security forces, since the Taliban regained control in Afghanistan in 2021. The bordering provinces of KP and Balochistan have been the worst affected.

In January 2025 alone, the country recorded a 42% rise in terrorist incidents compared to the previous month. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), 74 militant attacks were reported nationwide, resulting in 91 deaths, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants.

KP remained the most affected province, with 27 attacks in its settled districts, while the tribal districts witnessed 19 attacks, leading to significant casualties. Security forces continue efforts to curb the rising threat of militancy in the region.
