KARACHI: Former Prime Minister and dissenting PML-N figure, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, has taken his case to the Sindh High Court, aiming to have his name removed from the Exit Control List (ECL). His legal representative filed a petition asserting that the travel restriction violates Abbasi's constitutional rights.
Abbasi's inclusion on the ECL is linked to a case concerning alleged unlawful appointments at Pakistan State Oil (PSO) during his tenure as the petroleum minister in the PML-N government. In 2020, he faced a reference from the anti-graft watchdog over these accusations.
The interim federal cabinet has granted permission for Abbasi, despite being on the ECL, to travel abroad once a month. This decision came following a cabinet discussion where a proposal for multiple foreign visits by Abbasi did not receive approval.
