KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued an order on Wednesday, directing the registration of a case for a missing individual.
Additionally, the court has instructed the Sindh Home Department to promptly establish a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the matter. The court has set a deadline of May 29 for responses from the provincial and federal governments, as well as other relevant authorities.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the disappearance of citizens, the SHC emphasized a zero-tolerance approach towards such incidents. During the hearing, Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto criticized the situation, stating that it is unacceptable for one brother to be released from jail while another goes missing.
Furthermore, the court mandated swift registration and investigation of missing persons cases following a petition filed seeking the recovery of a missing individual.
Earlier, during the hearing of a case involving 10 missing citizens, the SHC expressed frustration over the lack of action by investigation officers and others in locating the missing individuals. Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto highlighted the delay in determining whether the missing persons left voluntarily or were forcibly taken.
The bench has also summoned the head of the JIT over the failure to trace a citizen missing for the past 12 years from Ajmer Nagri in Karachi. Additionally, financial assistance has been directed for the family of a citizen missing from Mominabad since 2012.
