KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has upheld the death sentences of Abdul Rahman Bhola and Zubair Charya in the Baldia factory tragedy case. The court announced its reserved verdict on appeals against the convictions of those involved in the tragic incident.

Furthermore, the government's appeal against the acquittal of former provincial minister Rauf Siddiqui, Abdul Sattar, Iqbal Adeeb Khanum, and Umar Hassan has been rejected by the court. However, the appeals of four accused individuals, Shahrukh, Fazal, Arshad Mehmood, and Ali Muhammad, who were sentenced to life imprisonment, have been accepted.

The case, which resulted in the deaths of 259 people due to a fire in a Baldia Town factory on September 11, 2012, saw MQM municipal sector in-charge Zubair Charya, Rehman Bhola, Ali Muhammad, Fazal Muhammad, Shahrukh, and Arshad Mehmood filing appeals against their sentences. The defense argued that crucial facts were overlooked during the initial decision by the anti-terrorism court.
