Former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated during a workers' convention in Lahore that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif is returning to guide Pakistan back onto the path of prosperity. Shehbaz emphasized that Nawaz Sharif's removal from power had hindered the country's progress.
Shehbaz Sharif praised Nawaz Sharif's previous tenure, noting that during that period, inflation was minimal, with flour and sugar prices at Rs35 and Rs52, respectively. He credited Nawaz Sharif with addressing challenges such as power outages and unemployment, and he praised Nawaz Sharif for making Pakistan a nuclear power and establishing educational institutions.
Shehbaz Sharif also criticized the alleged electoral rigging in the 2018 elections, stating that it deprived the nation's children of education, healthcare, prosperity, and development.
He announced Nawaz Sharif's planned return to Pakistan on October 21 and encouraged people to gather at Minar-i-Pakistan to welcome him. Shehbaz emphasized that Nawaz Sharif's return was aimed at restoring Pakistan's previous progress and was not motivated by political vendettas.
Nawaz Sharif, who has been facing various legal cases, including references by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), left for London in December 2019 for medical reasons after receiving permission from the Lahore High Court. Sources indicated that Nawaz Sharif had booked a business class ticket for a private airline's flight to return to Pakistan on October 21, with plans to land at Abu Dhabi International Airport before heading to Lahore on the same day.
