Islamabad: Shehbaz Sharif, President of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), officially assumed the role of the 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan on Monday. The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by President Arif Alvi at Aiwan-e-Sadar.

Among the attendees were caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chief Ministers, governors, and other dignitaries.

Shehbaz Sharif secured 201 votes in the National Assembly, defeating his opponent Omar Ayub Khan of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), who received 92 votes.

The session, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, began with the oath-taking of PML-N’s Jam Kamal. During the session, SIC lawmakers protested by chanting slogans and holding pictures of PTI founder Imran Khan.

Shehbaz Sharif's candidacy received support from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP).

In his inaugural speech as Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif extended an invitation to the opposition for a 'Charter of Reconciliation' to address Pakistan's challenges. He emphasized that while the road ahead might be difficult, it is not insurmountable, rallying support from his party lawmakers.
