Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have reiterated their commitment to accelerate the initial phase of a new $5 billion Saudi investment package in Pakistan. This confirmation emerged during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud at the Al-Safwa Palace in Makkah Mukarramah on Monday.

According to an official statement, the discussions aimed at bolstering the fraternal ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and exploring avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including trade and investment.

During the encounter, the Saudi crown prince extended congratulations to PM Shehbaz on assuming office and conveyed best wishes. In response, PM Shehbaz expressed gratitude to the prince for Saudi Arabia's steadfast support and hospitality, reiterating Pakistan's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and economic cooperation.

Both leaders reaffirmed their determination to expedite the initial phase of the new $5 billion Saudi investment package in Pakistan. They also delved into shared interests in regional and global affairs, including the alarming situation in Gaza.

The leaders jointly called for a halt to Israel’s illegal actions in Gaza, minimizing civilian casualties, and providing robust support for aid to the oppressed Palestinians. They emphasized the importance of international pressure to compel Israel to refrain from unlawful actions and adhere to international laws, stressing the necessity of unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza.

Furthermore, the two sides discussed advancing Arab peace initiatives alongside relevant UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, aiming for a just and comprehensive resolution for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The leaders underscored the significance of dialogue between Pakistan and India, particularly in resolving disputes such as the Jammu and Kashmir conflict, to ensure regional peace and stability.

Towards the conclusion of the meeting, PM Shehbaz extended an invitation to the Saudi crown prince for an official visit to Pakistan, which was accepted.

It's noteworthy that the prime minister is on a three-day official visit to Saudi Arabia.
