Sheikh Rashid detained in connection with May 9 incident

Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rashid was arrested outside a courtroom after his bail application was denied in connection with the May 9 riots on Tuesday.

Rashid is facing charges related to the damage at the Metro bus station on Sixth Road in Rawalpindi. The former interior minister is now being transferred to the New Town Police Station. The hearing for riot-related cases has been postponed until January 25.

In a separate development, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has granted bail to the ex-federal minister and other accused in the General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case. This case was filed against them at the RA Bazaar Police Station. Additionally, the court has approved bail for Rashid and other nominated individuals in the May 9 riots, which erupted nationwide following the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder.

Prior to this development, Sheikh Rashid and other defendants had secured interim bails in 12 out of 13 cases from the ATC in Rawalpindi.
