KARACHI: The Sindh Education Department has announced a province-wide holiday for schools and educational institutions on Tuesday, January 28, in observance of Shab-e-Meraj. According to the official notification, all public and private educational institutions, including schools under the department’s administration, will remain closed on this day.

The holiday applies to schools and colleges across Sindh, including major cities such as Karachi and Hyderabad. Shab-e-Meraj, also known as the Night of Ascension, is a significant event in Islamic history, observed on the 27th night of the Islamic month of Rajab.

This night commemorates the miraculous journey of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from the Kaaba in Mecca to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, followed by his ascension (Miraj) to the heavens. During this divine journey, the Prophet received instructions from Allah, including the establishment of daily prayers (Salah) for Muslims.

Shab-e-Meraj is considered a time of spiritual reflection and divine mercy. Muslims believe that it is a night when Allah’s blessings and forgiveness are abundant. On this occasion, many Muslims engage in additional prayers, recite the Quran, and seek forgiveness for their sins. It is viewed as an opportunity to strengthen one’s faith, seek guidance, and express gratitude to Allah for His endless mercy.

Shab-e-Meraj serves as a reminder of the deep connection between Muslims and Allah, and is celebrated with reverence and devotion by followers of Islam.
