KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly has summoned a session for the swearing-in of newly elected MPAs on Saturday, February 24th.
Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori has approved the recommendation of Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Maqbool Baqar to convene the first session of the Sindh Assembly on Saturday.
During this session, the newly elected representatives of the Sindh Assembly will take their oaths.
The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) secured a significant victory, winning a record 84 general seats in the Sindh Assembly. With reserved seats for women and minorities, the PPP's total strength in the assembly will exceed 100 for the first time.
Out of the 130 general seats, results for 130 have been declared. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has secured 28 provincial assembly seats. Independent candidates backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have won 14 seats, while the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) has secured two constituencies. The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has won on two seats, and three independents have emerged victorious from three seats.
In a separate development, Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman has officially issued a notification calling for the assembly meeting.
The Punjab Assembly is scheduled to convene tomorrow, Friday, for its inaugural session following the general elections held on February 8th.
The Punjab Assembly session will begin at 10 am tomorrow for the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected members. Speaker Punjab Assembly Sabatin Khan will administer the oath to the elected representatives, officially inducting them into the legislative body.
Additionally, the schedule for the election of the new speaker and deputy speaker of the house will be announced.
