Sindh has officially declared September 29 as a public holiday to commemorate Eid Milad un Nabi (PBUH). This decision was made by the interim government in Sindh, recognizing the upcoming celebration of the 12th Rabi ul Awal, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
On September 29, all government offices and institutions in Sindh will be closed as a mark of respect for the Holy Prophet (PBUH). A notification from the Sindh government states, "The Government of Sindh declares 12th Rabi ul Awal 1445 (AH) on 29th September 2023 (Friday), Eid Milad un Nabi (SAWW), as a public holiday for all offices, autonomous, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the administrative control of the government of Sindh."
Essential services, however, will continue to operate without interruption during this holiday.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convened to sight the moon for the lunar month Rabi ul Awal, but the crescent was not visible that evening. Consequently, they announced that the start of Rabi ul Awal for the Islamic year 1445 AH would be the following evening, which corresponds to September 29 as the 12th day of the month.
Eid Milad un Nabi is celebrated by Muslims worldwide with great religious fervor and enthusiasm. In Pakistan, this day is marked by public processions, events, and seminars that focus on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The celebrations typically begin with streets illuminated by colorful lights upon the moon sighting, followed by various ceremonies, including milad and processions throughout the country.
Individuals, as well as government bodies, religious organizations, and milad committees, participate in numerous activities such as processions, seminars, conferences, and discussions to commemorate this annual event, adorning streets, buildings, and mosques with vibrant decorations and lights as part of the festivities.
