Sindh energy minister shares details on free solar panel initiative

KARACHI: Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah announced that 500,000 free solar panels will be distributed this year among deserving households to address electricity shortages in underserved areas.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of electricity supply in Abdullah Rind Goth, Manghopir Town, the minister emphasized that the initiative aligns with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision of providing electricity to all. He stated that the distribution of 200,000 solar systems has already begun, while the broader scheme of 500,000 systems will commence later this year.

The initiative aims to deliver solar power to areas where conventional electricity infrastructure has not yet reached. The minister highlighted that Karachi residents would benefit from affordable electricity as the government works towards the regularization of villages. Additionally, he reaffirmed that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari envisions home ownership rights being granted to women.

Sindh’s energy initiatives extend beyond household solar systems. The provincial government is actively working on a 400-megawatt solar park, expected to be completed by 2025. This project is a key component of the Sindh Solar Energy Project, which includes large-scale solar parks aimed at expanding renewable energy production.

Furthermore, the government is committed to providing technical training and employment opportunities for local communities through solar energy projects. While industries remain crucial, the primary focus is ensuring electricity access for all citizens, marking a step towards sustainable energy solutions in the province.
