KARACHI – The Sindh government has officially extended the deadline for the replacement of old vehicle registration books with new smart registration cards until 15 May 2025, offering relief to thousands of vehicle owners across the province.

The decision was confirmed by Sindh Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, who emphasized that the extension is aimed at facilitating the public and ensuring a smooth transition process. A formal notification in this regard has been issued by the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, according to a report by Express News.

Originally, the last date for the mandatory shift to the new system was 3 April 2025. However, the new deadline provides citizens with additional time to complete the necessary formalities without facing penalties or inconvenience.

Vehicle owners have been strongly urged to take advantage of this grace period and update their old registration documents before the revised cutoff date. The Excise Department has reiterated that after 15 May, old registration books may no longer be considered valid for official use.

The introduction of smart vehicle registration cards is part of a wider digitization effort by the Sindh government to modernize vehicle documentation and strengthen security protocols. These smart cards are embedded with advanced security features, making them tamper-resistant and significantly reducing the risk of forgery. They also enable digital recordkeeping, streamlining law enforcement and administrative processes.

Officials say the smart cards will not only offer improved security but also enhance convenience for vehicle owners through easier verification and faster access to records.

With the extension now in place, the government hopes that a greater number of vehicle owners will come forward to update their documents, ultimately leading to a more secure and efficient vehicle registration system in Sindh.

For further details, vehicle owners are encouraged to contact their nearest Excise and Taxation Office or visit the department’s official website.
