KARACHI: Ali Hasan Zardari, the provincial minister for jails, announced on Friday that Sindh's prisons would transition to solar power. Under this plan, solar kits ranging from 200 to 600KV would be installed in jails across the province to power fans in prisoner barracks using solar technology.
Zardari stated that the process has already commenced for Karachi Central Jail, Women’s Jail, and Landhi Jail, while the second phase will involve shifting jails in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sanghar, Khairpur, Ghotki, Jacobabad, and Sukkur to solar power.
Additionally, sources note a significant decrease in solar panel prices in Pakistan, making them increasingly affordable. This trend is also evident globally, with reports indicating that solar panels are now being utilized to construct fences, particularly in countries like the Netherlands and Germany.
Images circulating on social media depict the use of solar panels for fencing, replacing conventional methods. This drop in prices is attributed to increased production by Chinese companies in the global market, resulting in an oversupply of solar panels and a shift in market dynamics beyond China's dominance.
