The Sindh Education Department has lifted the ban on registration of private educational institutions, according to a notification issued by Additional Director Rafia Javed.
The notification states that private schools must meet certain criteria in order to be registered. These criteria include:
- A minimum plot area of 200 yards for pre-primary and elementary schools in the suburbs, and 400 yards for posh areas of Karachi.
- A minimum plot area of 400 yards for secondary and O-level schools in the suburbs, and 600 yards for posh areas of Karachi.
- At least 10 rooms in the RCC building for pre-primary and elementary schools, and 15 rooms for secondary and O-level schools.
- An approved map of the building.
- The necessary equipment, science and computer lab facilities, relevant books in the library, canteen, clean drinking water, and clean washrooms.
- CCTV cameras and a boundary wall.
The notification also states that the school's management must be registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
The Sindh Education Department had imposed a ban on registration of private schools in April 2023, in order to ensure that all schools meet the necessary quality standards. The ban has now been lifted after the department was satisfied that the quality of private schools in Sindh has improved significantly.
The lifting of the ban is expected to boost the education sector in Sindh, as it will allow new private schools to open and offer quality education to students.
