KARACHI: On Thursday, Provincial Minister Sharjeel Memon announced the initiation of a crackdown on illegal bus and taxi terminals in the city.
Sindh’s Minister for Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Memon, revealed plans to launch a shuttle service from various points across the city for commuters.
He cited negligence during the caretaker setup as the reason for the delay in Karachi's Red Line bus rapid transit project. Memon expressed confidence that Karachi's infrastructure would significantly improve after the completion of the Yellow and Red Line BRT projects.
Regarding Chingchi (Qingqi) rickshaws operating in the city despite a court stay order, Memon mentioned an alternative employment scheme being devised for those involved in the transport sector.
Memon highlighted that Sindh is the only province to introduce electric vehicle (EV) buses and mentioned the Pink bus service as a major pilot project.
This year, Memon stated that 3,900 challans were issued from January 1st to May 22nd. Additionally, 95 vehicles had their cylinders removed, and 700 challans were issued for illegal parking.
