KARACHI: The Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) has achieved a major milestone by becoming the first public-sector tax agency in Pakistan to be awarded the prestigious Training Organisation outside Practice (TOoP) status by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP).
This recognition allows SRB to engage Chartered Accountancy (CA) students for articleship, significantly boosting its tax audit capabilities.
A certificate award ceremony was held at the Chief Minister's House, where ICAP President Saifullah presented the certificate to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and SRB Chairman Dr. Wasif Ali Memon. Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah and other senior officials also attended the event.
In his address, Chief Minister Murad praised SRB’s leadership in modernizing the tax system and implementing progressive reforms. He reiterated the Sindh government’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment and improving taxpayer facilitation. Murad emphasized that taxes should be seen as an investment to enhance public services and infrastructure, rather than a burden.
Chairman SRB, Dr. Wasif Ali Memon, highlighted the significant growth of the SRB, noting that the board’s revenue collection has grown from Rs. 25 billion in its first year (2011) to Rs. 25 billion per month today. He also shared SRB’s focus on modern methodologies to improve tax compliance and administration, while providing maximum facilitation to taxpayers.
ICAP President Saifullah expressed gratitude towards the Sindh government for supporting ICAP's initiatives and praised SRB’s taxpayer-friendly policies. He proposed the formation of a joint working group between ICAP and SRB to enhance tax systems, a proposal that was well-received by the Chief Minister.
The Government of Sindh continues to emphasize efficient revenue administration and professional partnerships to build a strong financial ecosystem in the province.
