SSUET unveils bachelor's curriculum for computer engineering technology

KARACHI: Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET), in partnership with the National Technology Council (NTC), recently organized an event to launch the curriculum for their new Bachelor's program in Computer Engineering Technology.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of several notable individuals, including Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin, Registrar Commodore (R) Syed Sarfraz Ali, Deans, Chairpersons, faculty members, and representatives from various universities, such as Dr. Johar Ali (Vice Chancellor of Usman Institute of Technology), Dr. Zafar Nasir (Vice Chancellor of Indus University), Dr. Bilal Alvi (Vice Chancellor of Nazeer Hussain University, NED University), Prof. Dr. S. Nazeer Alam (Karachi University), Prof. Dr. H. M. Zahid Hussain Tunio (Dawood University), Prof. Dr. Fahad Azim (Ziauddin University), Prof. Dr. Engr. Khan Muhammad Brohi (Hamdard University), Mr. Zulfiqar Ali (Newport University), Prof. Abdul Aleem Khanzada (Jinnah Polytechnic Institute), and Prof. Dr. M. Ghazanfer Ullah (UITU).

Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, Chairman of NTC, provided insights into the future of Pakistan's technology sector, emphasizing infrastructure, human capital development, and technology curricula. He highlighted the pioneering work behind the curriculum for the Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering Technology, which involved collaboration with experts from various provinces and universities to align it with the Sydney Accord.

Gilani also stressed the distinction between engineers and engineering technologists, where engineers focus on theory, analysis, and design, while engineering technologists are more practical and application-oriented. He mentioned the three active players in the engineering discipline: Engineers, Engineering Technologists, and Engineering Technicians.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin underlined the significance of collaboration between think tanks and universities globally and Sir Syed University's strong partnerships with other academic institutions. He emphasized the pivotal role of youth in advancing the country, emphasizing the need for their grooming, training, and nurturing of innovative ideas to address societal challenges and contribute to product development.

Registrar Commodore (R) Syed Sarfraz Ali noted the distinctions between engineering and technology, highlighting the practical application of scientific knowledge by technologists to ensure the effective operation of technologies.

The Deans of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aamir, and the Faculty of Civil Engineering & Architecture, Prof. Dr. Mir Shabbar, also shared their thoughts during the event.
