There's been a concerning rise in respiratory infections, notably influenza and pneumonia, in Karachi.

Dr. Halar Shaikh, a general physician at Jinnah Hospital Karachi, highlighted a notable increase in influenza cases, particularly among the elderly, accounting for about 70%. The remaining 30% comprises various types of pneumonia cases.

Symptoms reported by most patients include high fever, cough, body aches, runny nose, headaches, and sore throat, all linked to the influenza outbreak.

Health experts advise the public to wear facemasks, maintain hand hygiene, and take precautions as the influenza virus easily spreads from an infected person to others.

Those infected are urged to stay home for at least 24 hours, minimize contact, and avoid travel. The Sindh health department recommends influenza vaccination as the crucial preventive measure for protection against the virus.
