The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has set a deadline of December 6, 2023, for tax officers at or above the BS-17 level to submit certificates proving the e-filing of their tax returns.

The FBR issued instructions to its field offices, emphasizing that despite the income tax return filing deadline closing on October 31, 2023, numerous Inland Revenue officials failed to meet the deadline.

According to the FBR's directives to field offices, all officers at or above the BS-17 level are mandated to e-file their tax returns for the 2023 tax year. The board requires a certificate confirming this action, to be submitted before December 6, 2023. The provided information, duly signed by the respective chief commissioner IT, must be emailed by the specified due date without exception.

The Secretary of Revenue and Budget, in a letter to the Chief Commissioners IR dated November 30, 2023, conveyed the directive for BS-17 and above officers to e-file their income tax returns for TY2023, stressing the submission of a certificate to this effect to the board by December 6, 2023.

During a recent session with the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue, the FBR chairman highlighted that although there are 11.4 million registered individuals, not all of them are fulfilling their obligation to file income tax returns.
